How to Convert Word to PDF on iPhone & Android

Don't wait until you get to a computer. Here is how to handle documents on the go.

📱

It’s 4:55 PM. You are on the bus. The recruiter just emailed you: "Can you send your resume as a PDF right now?"

You have the Word file on your phone. But how do you change it to a PDF without a laptop? Do you need to buy a $10 app? Do you need to subscribe to Adobe?

Absolutely not. Whether you are team iPhone or team Android, converting documents is actually built right into your phone, or easily done via the web. Let’s dive in.

The Fastest Method (No Apps)

Convert on Phone Now

Method 1: iPhone (iOS) Native Way

Apple hides a "Print to PDF" feature deep inside the share menu. It's a neat trick if you know where to look.

  1. Open the Files App and find your Word document.
  2. Tap the Share Icon (the square with the arrow pointing up).
  3. Scroll down and tap Print. (Yes, Print. Trust us).
  4. When the print preview appears, pinch outwards with two fingers on the document preview image. This "zooms in" and secretly converts it to a PDF.
  5. Tap the Share icon again, and now you can "Save to Files" as a PDF.

Method 2: Android (Google Docs)

Most Android phones come with Google Drive or Docs pre-installed. Here is how to use it:

  1. Open your Word file in the Google Docs app.
  2. Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
  3. Select Share & Export.
  4. Tap Save As and choose PDF Document (.pdf).
  5. It will download a PDF version to your device's "Downloads" folder.

Method 3: The "No Confusion" Way (PDF Professionals)

The native methods above work, but they can mess up formatting. Sometimes images shift, or fonts get replaced by generic system fonts. If you want your resume to look exactly like it did on your computer:

FAQ: Mobile Conversions

Where does the file go after I download it on iPhone?

On iOS, downloads usually go to the "Files" app inside the "Downloads" folder. You can attach it to an email directly from there.

Does converting on mobile lower quality?

If you use the "Screenshot" method (taking a picture of your screen), yes, quality is terrible. But if you use our converter or the "Print" method, the text remains crisp vector data.
